the ex-factor

Lauren Hill sang about it, but I want to briefly write about it...

Sometimes you form a bond with an individual; a bond that captivates your heart, appeals to all of your senses, and allows you to seemingly relate to the most sought after emotion...love.

In forming a bond with this person, you develop feelings; feelings that may differ from those of your partner, but feelings that you both somehow share, may it be emotionally or physically. The formation of the feelings is usually not in question, however, the interpretation and the expectations concerning these feelings usually bring about some sort of disconnect between the two parties.

How does one avoid such confusion and disillusionment -- a question I feel hits home for most of us. How do we ensure that we are connected both physically and emotionally to our mate, and that the interpretations and expectations involved in this relationship are in harmony?

Personally, I have yet to find the solution to this ongoing cycle, however, I do begin to link factors such as knowledge, respect, and experience to situations like this.

With knowledge comes wisdom; a certain level of a maturity to wisely evaluate situations.

With respect comes pride; a pride in one's self that allows us to view situations from an objective standpoint, considering our feelings and those of another simulateneously, and taking pride in the decisions we ultimately make.

And lastly, with experience comes a wealth of knowledge...knowledge, that if heeded properly, will lead to recognition of perception versus reality, acceptance of truth, avoidance of obvious unfufillment and a wealth of additional vices that only can be granted to us with time.

So, just what does this mean? Have I just not gotten enough experience in my short existence on earth? Will time grant me the tools needed to involve myself in a more stable, productive, satisfying relationship?
